Yvonne 50 (diagnosed at 50)
Patient-to-patient topic: Fatigue
I’ve been dealing with fatigue since my 30’s. I’ve always been active, working and trying to exercise. Nothing ever seemed to boost my energy. I mostly eat vegetables, fruits and lean meats because other foods make me even more tired. I’ve learned that I have to listen to my body and give it what it needs.
Most difficult symptoms: Fatigue and dry mouth
How has Sjögren's impacted my life: Sjögren’s is teaching me to pace myself, to not take on too much.
What I wish I knew when first dealing with these symptoms and Sjögren’s: That it’s not just dry eyes and dry mouth. That it affects my whole body. I’ve had new onset diagnoses since my Sjögren's diagnosis in May 2023. I now have Paroxysmal Atrial Fibrillation with RVR and Moderate Tricuspid Regurgitation. I have been told by a cardiologist that I’m a “mystery” because other than Sjögrens, I don’t have any underlying medical conditions. I’m pretty healthy.
How do I incorporate self-care with managing Sjögren's: I have the support of my family. This allows me to take time to myself (get a massage, spend time with friends).
What’s your best Sjögren’s tip? Advocate for your health and make self care a priority!
