The Sjögren's Foundation acknowledges the interest in exploring alternative therapies. A recent study published in the International Journal of Rheumatic Diseases evaluated the efficacy of the traditional Chinese medicine tea bag TBDESJS (Chun-Yu-Ching-Hua-Yin, CYCHY) in improving tear production and ocular surface health in patients with Sjögren's disease. The Foundation has received many calls on this study and so we consulted with our medical experts.

While this Phase 2 study suggests potential benefits, there are some flaws in the study design which limit the ability to reach conclusive decisions. Further research with a larger sample size and extended follow-up is necessary to better understand how effective this tea might be and if it can help Sjögren's patients. It is also important to monitor potential side effects to make sure it's safe for patients to use long-term.

As always, the Sjögren's Foundation recommends consulting healthcare professionals before considering alternative therapies.
